From Pasco, WA to Provo, then South Route East

Early Spring trip from Pasco, WA down to Provo Utah.
Cedar City
St. George
Page AZ
Flagstaff NM
Albuquerque NM
Amarillo TX
OK City
Ft. Smith, AR
Topeka KS

We are trying to decide whether to leave home in April or May, but either timeframe we would like to use the Interstates as much as possible, and will be towing the 19 ft TT on this trip (bare necessities packing).

Trying to stay out of the high passes due to time of year, and as much of a Southern route as we can. If anyone could suggest other routes, we would appreciate it. We have gone thru differing routes, but want to research family history in OK, AR, and KS (these three places we want to spend 3-4 weeks each.

Ultimately we will be going to Ontario, Canada, then down South to visit relation in Virginia .. although may turn that around and do Virginia, then Canada.

So only part we seem stuck on is the routing towards OK City, Ft. Smith, and Topeka. Have mapped out the Colorado route, but thought this a mite early in the Spring to be going thru Denver.

  • We tried to go thru Colorado & Kansas but seems to be a lack of rv parks after leaving Denver area going towards the middle of Kansas ... just really a******shoot trying to get past Salt Lake City and ending up in Manhattan, KS.

Thanx for the input though from everyone .. gives us more options and something to think about .. and not really thrilled about going on 6% grades even with a 3/4 ton Suburban towing an 18 footer (just for this trip only).
  • Looks like the towns you have listed mean you are taking I-84 to I-15 to I-40 all the way to Ft. Smith, with the one exception of Page. How did Page get in there if you are trying to stay on Interstates? Sounds like you have something you want to see that is not on an Interstate.

Neither April or May is a problem if you just plan to stay on I-70 through Colorado and Kansas. It is kept open regardless of weather. But, if you don't want to cross Vail Pass and climb up to the Eisenhower Tunnel (both on 6% grades), you probably should just use I-40.
  • I think March can be ify anywhere, especially with this crazy weather we are having, how can one really plan. It might be the hottest or wettest or coldest or driest on record the way things are going and then you will have the issues of earthquakes in Oklahoma and tornadoes in Kansas. (aren't I fun)
Sounds as if you have time. I would just get a good weather radio and go for it, and if weather becomes an issue, pull in and wait it out.
