From Redding, CA to Eureka, CA

I'm planning to travel that highway (#299) next week - March 7&8 and have no idea what to expect. I will be driving Toyota Rav4. Should I be prepared for ice and snow, or it will be all clear? I hope to get some response from people that know that road.

Thank you in advance to all. gregn
  • As long as your not subject to motion sickness you should be fine. Most of the road, while goingmover several passes is still in the coast range, so roads might be wet, but snow? Probably not.
  • There will be some low-elevation snow this week, according to NOAA -- see the Weaverville forecast:

But I would bet it'll all be gone by next week. Should be a beautiful drive!

Check the Calif. DOT application and CARR application for road contains and weather. Check the Weather Channel 3 days before you start. IMHO, I always carry chains and other equiptment that I might need for potential winter conditions even when I not towing my RV. Calif. has enforced laws requiring you to chain up if road conditions require it any where north of Redding. No chains! No go!
