Fuel stops on Hwy 64 NC

I live in Gville SC and have a 28' class a gas motorhome with a geo tracker toad. I am planning a trip to the OBX (Cape Hatteras) in December and part of my trip is along hwy 64. Can anyone give me some fuel stops that are rig friendly?

I have a good sam trip planner app but it doesn't help with my set-up

Thank you,

Dave S
  • Well, I said I was getting a break. I was mistaken. I was so busy dealing with the LeSharo I really didn't pay attention to potential stops. !%#*&!.

I think I may just drive my dependable chevy and stay at a few motels. Ocean front rooms are very affordable in January and February
  • I'll be getting a break actually. My father has a Wiinebago LeSharo that has just gotten out of the shop and needs to be taken on a shakedown cruise. I'll be using it to map out fuel stops for my regular rig and toad.
The only problem I may encounter is trying to drive the thing with a bag over my head...
Thanks for the input though. Seriously

  • Dave S, I spoke too soon, mixed up with another area. I just looked at my fuel log (that's why I keep it!).

In Tarboro NC, a little East of Rocky Mount, take Business 64 into the town, and about 1.4 miles in on the left is a Valero on a corner. Several choices for entry/exit, well suited for my 38 footer with toad.

You can see it on Google Maps.
  • Actually I recall wishing I'd fueled up sooner on that route. At I-95, no problem, likewise at Rocky Mount. After that the little towns' stations were tight to get into.
But on Roanoke Island there are a couple right on the highway, easy in and out.
  • If you're picking up US 64 at Exit 96 off I-85 you won't have a problem finding gas stops between there and the East coast. There are a number of small towns with stations that can handle your rig. Larger cities like Asheboro, Metro Raleigh, Rocky Mount also have stations you can get in and out of.
Good luck and have a safe trip.
