Furkot app

This Furkot seems kinda cool! Messing around with it now and like the ease of using.

You folks use this much?

Seems to be a good trip planner for distance, lodging, stocking-up and fueling. Think I'll use my other apps for more choices though. Yet kinda easy in it's own way.

Again, found about it here reading through a few threads.
  • Ditto. Tried it after reading about on rv.net and I like it so far (and it's free).

There's a feature to use off line.. Tried it yet?

I have an Ipad that I bought a satellite tracker for (Bad Elf) and works very well with Maps.me offline. Need to try Furkot with it.

Haven't tried it offline...don't have the bandwidth to download the necessary components. Will try the offline feature when I get a better connection.
  • I have been trying to use Furkot to replace SA for some time now. It is a good planner, but there is a still a lot that I have not yet learned to do and some of that I know it is just not capable of, like navigation underway with an attached GPS.

We avoid blue roads and so are out of data coverage a lot of the time. I know I can download Google Maps, but I still can't track on that map with a linked GPS. I may never forgive Garmin/Delorme for abandoning us.

  • I'll watch the other reviewers. Looked at it and seems to have More of things I am not interested in - 'ie reservations' More fluff.

Like Mark, I may not forgive DeLorme for abandoning 'SA' & 'Topo'. I want the ability to see where I am along the route in real time. I do not see that ability on Furkot or any other current mapping system. JM2¢

The last half dozen versions from Delorme have been quite sad. Their flat out refusal to make a portable version as they had on the PDA years ago really killed them and alienated their user base. Their routes, POIs, and user POIs and destination organization went south :(

They failed miserably at marketing satellite imagery while google maps gave it away.

They spent several years ignoring customer needs, when they had THE competitive jump and edge on mostly everyone.

I, too, hope for a good replacement soon!
  • Here's what I use with my GPS:

    Maps.me

I use Bad Elf as my GPS antenna.
If was to buy again, I'd spring for the Bluetooth version.
Since I use my iPad mini as the screen, the through power is not enough to keep it charged for hours!

I will check out if Furkot hooks up to the Bad Elf and report back.
Bad Elf does not work on Maps or Google Maps.

Download the maps you need and go! Turn by turn, no Cell data. All GPS
  • So, Furkot wants you using their suggested apps for Nav.. Pay for apps. They don't run in the free mode. No way of testing.. Don't like and deleted the app.

I tried to figure out how to turn on Nav with Furkot and not there yet.. though the site shows you can.

Probably due to not recognizing my Bad Elf.

I work through this some more and report back for those interested.
Really would like to see it work.
