A friend has asked me to ask on the forum..she bought a new Garmin which works great in the USA but not here in Mexico does she need to buy a chi or can she get it off the internet thanks les

Leslie. I updated my Nuvi Garmin before we headed down and still had a lot of problems. I have found that you cannot rely on it solely. I have gotten myself in many bad situations because I was believing the Garmin instead of a good Roja map.
It still is very handy especially if you use the exact latitude and longitude of the place you want to find ,it but the road system here in Mexico has has not been inputted at the same level as Can/Us and I think it is because of the lack of advertising revenue to Garmin here.
