GASAHOL Wanted Or Not

Mexico recently signed an agreement with the US that allows US refined gasoline imported to Mexico to contain as much as 5% alcohol. Whether or not the imported gasoline you buy at a station contains alcohol will remain a mystery. There is no way to tell for sure. Mexico definitely uses MTBE in winter in smog prone areas and all gasoline sold in these areas will contain it.

There are a few unfamiliar names appearing on gasolinera signage. Whether or not it would contain alcohol is unknown but generally the USA is the only country supplying gasoline to Mexico that definitely may contain alcohol.

This is not limited to USA branded gasoline. Imported PEMEX fuel CAN contain 5% alcohol. The major source would be the joint venture Shell Oil / Pemex refinery on the Houston Ship Channel, Deer Park Texas.

Pemex is presently purchasing generic bulk fuel from California and Texas refineries. Whether Chevron gasoline contains TECHRON is a good question.

  • As long as Iowa plays a major role in presidential primaries in the US we will have ethanol in our gas.
  • We have 10% jammed down our throat in Florida.

I dislike it. Mileage goes down. Lawn Equipment not designed for it. Boat motors hate it.

We spent a few mos in Ohio last summer which doesn’t use it and our Honda ran better and mileage went up 15%.

You can get non alcohol fuel but it costs an arm and a leg.

Crooked politicians bought off by Big Ag.
