The traffic disruptions afect the poor more than anyone else, how many that live in the outlying towns and travell to work are not able to reach the job in time or not at all and are either docked the day or fired because of this dumb protests that the government does not even care, the politicos have access to all the fuel they want, they are the politicos.

Those paqueteros at the grocery store are not employees. It is important to make that clear.

Secondly, here is an interview with Miguel Messmacher, the Assistant Secretary of Energy and SCHP. Unfortunately, it is in Spanish and I can't find the script to translate it. This comes straight from the horse's mouth.

He states at 4:20 minutes, that as of February 18th, the price will fluctuate on a 24 hour basis depending on the peso and the price of petroleum. He goes on to say that the price on February 18th could go up or down depending on the above.

Going to any store even the street parking attendant that helps backing your car or the senior citizens pacing your groceries lives entirely from the tips, some are not emlpoyed at all by the stores, but allowed to "perform a service", they live entierlly from tips, and Mexicans are notoriouslly lousy tippers, so next time give them a tip, it will definitlly not hurt you.

Attendants are employees of the franchise owner and receive a salary plus tips. Some despachadores (attendants) receive as little as 685 pesos a week but do receive benefits provided by the law.

I can tell you from personal experience that IMSS sends inspectors to businesses on a regular basis to check. If they are working for a company big or small and do not receive the benefits (SS payments, SS medical, Infonavit, etc.) the owner will be fined big time.

We were fined more than 100,000 pesos in 1996 for thinking our workers had benefits paid for by the contractor and turns out they didn't. We were able to reduce the fine by visiting the IMSS office and making monthly payments for a year. Shame on us for being so naive. Even if you pay off the inspector to reduce the fines you still have to register everyone. They take names :)

Tips are a big part of their income though.

In the article I read that I can't find now they said the attendants are not happy because they work for tips - their only pay is tips - and with rising prices people are angry and are not tipping.

long lineups around San Luis Potosi & Matehuala at statiosn thta have gas. Diesel is no problem but you can wait 30 minutes for an attendant to come over. I am topping up at the first opon station when I hit 3/4 tank.

It's silly. Blockades will not stop the the move into the global economy.

Roads in to Mexico City were blocked for hours, our neighbor came from Zacatecas on Sunday, they stsrted at 05:00 in the morning and got here at 23:46 they were letting 5 vehicles trough every half hour at Tepeji del Rio on the road from Queretaro to Mexico City, North bound trafic no problem, gas stations in Ciudad Satelite are normal no shortage, just more expensive.

Paid $3.26/gal (US equivalent) yesterday in Kino for diesel. Long line by the time they opened at 3 PM. Just saw it's $2.33 in Tucson. Oh well, the price one pays to live in paradise!
