Happy trails, whichever route you choose!

Depends on whether your trip is for pleasure or to arrive quickly at your destination. I avoid the interstates. Not because they are less 'safe' but because they are usually less scenic. I especially don't like I-40.

Per your query:

Though married, I've traveled quite a bit on my own with the trailer. Never all the way across the country, though, so can't make any recommendations as to route etc. Most of my travel has been on the west coast, California to Washington State. As a general rule I stay off interstates just because I prefer the more leisurely pace/scenery of secondary roads.

Not sure what questions you may have about solo travel as a female...I will say that I've never felt afraid to be on my own, depending as I do on a well-developed sense of my surroundings when choosing places to stop/camp/whatever.

I boondock almost exclusively, if that's of any interest to you.

Try putting your post on the Escapees Forum, you do not need to be a number to post and there are a lot of solo travelers in the club.

Just an observation. To the OP: did you really mean to post this in the Canada forum? If so, the comments about interstate highway travel probably don't apply. If you really mean to travel within the lower 48 you should probably ask the moderator to move your post.

Check out Sue Henry's Maxie and Stretch series of mysteries. The heroine is a women who wanders the West, Canada and Alaska in her class C.

I did mean to post here because I'm considering "up and over" if I can swing it. My relatives came from Canada and I've always wanted to explore there. My other choice is Route 50. That said, I'd like to know if anyone has any thoughts on either route. I probably should have posted two topics, though. Welcome to my life!

As for your trip:

My Mother did EXACTLY what you're going to do the summer before she turned 65, only she did it in a little Mazda pickup with a canopy on the back. Took her six weeks and she had the time of her life!

She started out from Portland, Oregon, headed north to Vancouver B.C., and traveled due east along whatever-the-trans-Canada-highway is up there. She returned via the most northerly U.S. route- hwy 20, as I remember. Her approach was to map out Parks along the way and head for those each night. She stayed with some friends back east for a few days while there, but the rest of the time she slept in the back of the pickup and showered etc. at campground facilities.

The only trouble she reported was having her campsite raided by some tiny "bears" in a Canadian campground, and a plugged fuel filter somewhere in a remote part of (I think) Montana. She was "rescued" in Montana by a friendly truckdriver. The bears she had to fight off herself, determined as she was not to lose the cooler they were busily emptying.

Best of luck to you in your travels. My mom did 42 states in 1979 but she had her sister along for the journey so not quite the same. One of their favorite story's was the number of times they got asked "where's your men?" whenever they'd disembark from their motorhome. Look forward to reading your posts. Happy Trails!
