Good route Portland, OR to Phoenix, NOT thru California?

If you have good suggestions for a route from Portland, OR to Phoenix, AZ which does not involve California, I would appreciate your input. Someone told me that there was a new, very nice highway t...

I know you said "not CA" but if you are willing to do just a few hours in CA, it will be much faster going down I-5 to Eugene and cross over to 97, then drop down to Susanville or Alturas, and into Reno, Las Vegas and across to Phoenix. Good roads all the way.
