Grand Canyon Skywalk

Best to go to South rim, then around the East side to the North Rim. All good roads.

From Kingman take Hwy 93 towards Las Vegas and exit at Meadview Arizona. The road to the Skywalk is a dirt road to a parking area and you are transported by a bus to the skywalk area. Keep in mind that they charge you for everything check the cost before going and one other note, there is no picture taking on the glass skywalk.
There is much more to see and do at the South and North Rims and the roads are all paved.

The Sky Walk is very expensive and a lot of restrictions, First you have to go north on highway 93 from Kingman first to reach your posted directions. I would as another has posted go to the South Rim and maybe make the road trip the North Rim.

Visit the Skywalk if you must.It's Reservation land and they charge for the air you breath. I'd suggest the South rim shuttle tour and hold on to your money.

Go to the south rim, forget the Skywalk.

Well, that may well be, but you can't get to the Skywalk from the North Rim. Or from the east end of the GC, either.

To answer the OP's question: It is doable in a car, but the road is rough enough your truck will give you a solid bouncing. Do be aware that the road passes through several dry washes, and you need to watch closely for oncoming water. Those things are hazards for flash flooding even when it isn't raining because gully washers upstream can send water downstream without warning.

I believe Mandalay Parr was trying to say to skip the Skywalk and instead, do the South Rim or North Rim.

This is exactly would I would recommend. The Skywalk is very expensive and you have a limited time to walk on it and then are shooed off. It's not even overlooking the canyon but instead - a side canyon.

You'd have a greater experience by visiting the 'real' Grand Canyon in the National Park. You can stay as long as you want and get many different viewpoints.

Also, definitely walk down the Bright Angel Trail if only for 1/8 mile or so. It will give you a whole new perspective on the Canyon. It's awesome!

In 2006 my wife and I decided to go walk out on the skywalk. We drove up to the west end as far as we could go then the Indians have an area where you load on to busses and go to the skywalk. Very expensive and as much as I wanted to walk out on the skywalk I would not do it. There is a sign saying you have to leave cameras and any recording devices in the office. The drive back is beautiful, long dirt road. Watch for the busses because they are flying and will run over you.

I hate to add on to this but here is MHO. Forget the Skywalk - for all the reasons mentioned. The road is very rough and it is very, very, very expensive and troublesome from all the things I have read and heard over the years.

Spend your time at the South Rim....we have done that a LOT !
