Grants Pass to Gold Beach (OR)
MapQuest sends me south on 199 into California then back up 101 into Oregon. Is this an adequate route for my truck and 38ft 5th wheel? Many thanks!

Take you pick of that or 42 to the north. 42's a little straighter and lower.
Or if you are adventurous take the truck over the mountains on FS and BLM roads (but leave the trailer behind). Beware of Rogue River shuttles (with trailers) - they know those twisty roads well and take the curves fast.
