Grundy Lake PP or similar park with good fishing

We had the pleasure of camping at Grundy Lake Provincial Park about four years ago and told ourselves we'd definitely come back. Looking at doing so in early August.

We're traveling from Lansing, Mich., so welcome thoughts on the following, please (we have a Class C motorhome and will tow our Jeep):
* Cross near Detroit or Sault St. Marie?
* If we can't get in to Grundy, do you have suggestions of a similar park? We loved being right on the lake and being able to fish a TON in our canoe.
* Anything we should see while we're in the area?

Thanks in advance!

  • If you come across the top of lake huron try chutes provincial park, in Massey I think ,very nice and the north channel is very near - good fishing.
  • Grundy Lake and other PP's in that area are too close to Toronto and get booked up early. If you plan to cross at the Soo you may want to head north to Lake Superior provincial park or around the top of Superior. I'm not a fisherman but there are some great canoeing spots in LSPP and you will get into the parks easier. Maybe someone with fishing experience can comment. White Lake provincial park is also popular for the fishing crowd.
  • This is my neck of the woods! Yes Fairbanks is a nice park so is Restoule. Killarney is the go to park for a lot of people. I do love Grundy though. I would look into Fairbanks for sure. I've stayed there so many times.
  • Many thanks. Grundy is booked. Looking for something similar that has fishing. Will look at those you suggested, Tripalot. Much appreciated.
  • I think if I were you I would cross at Sault Ste. Marie - less traffic congestion than taking the 401/400 highways in Ontario and Hwy. 17 is a very pretty drive from Sault Ste Marie to Sudbury and south to Grundy on Hwy. 69. Keep in mind gasoline is cheaper in US but your Am. $ will go further in Canada this summer.

I would definitely make a reservation at Grundy. You might also enjoy Killarney P.P.which is about 45 miles west of Hwy. 69 and south of Sudbury.
Reservations would be necessary there as well. Ontario P.P. are brutle to get into during the summer months, especially on weekends.

Have a look on line at Fairbanks and Windy Lake P.P. which may be easier to get into. Both are located north off Hwy. 17 and West of Sudbury. I have not been to either of those parks in years so I don't know if they would meet your wishes or not.
  • Where?? It is not right to make us all assume you mean Ontario?? Please specify in your sibject line!!
