Highway 191

I want to travel 191 from Moab straight down to I-10 with a motorhome towing a vehicle. Motorhome is 12'10" high and total length including towed is 55'. Is this possible. Also are there any rv parks along the way. Thanks a bunch for any help.

Alpine go to Luna, N.M. and down to Glen Wood, and down, all the semi truck use it.

Better join a wagon train, that is Indian country.
  • I took old 666 (now 191) from alpine to clifton-morenci some years ago in my pickup with slide in camper. As I recall 4 hours for a little over 150 miles. not fun to say the least. Great for a motorcycle ride however.

Go over in NM to grants go down 53 to 117 that way past Malpais lava flow go to Quemado, Pie town and either back to AZ or.... as noted above you will either need to go to I25 or over to 60/260 to globe. just all depends on final destination on 10.

BTW foirgot to add 191 from I40 south is a junk road, very rough in places. we did it with our TT 2 years ago, not a nice ride, no scenery etc. High plains is all it is.
  • Unless you want to see something west of Albuquerque you might read my post from this spring tilted "US 550 Albuquerque to Durango" as we were going to go to Moab on our annual trip to the PNW before our plans changed. The post has some info that might give you an alternate as most responses don't recommend your planned route...Be safe ...John
  • Was there a couple of weeks ago. From just south of Alpine down to Clifton is way too tight to do safely with your rig. Like others have said, take US60 east from Eager to I-25 at Socorro and then south to I-10, if you're going east on I-10.

South to Eagar is doable, south from Eagar.... not so much. From Eagar down to 70 the road is not recommended for rigs as large as yours. That stretch of 191 is very tight, lots of steep grades and switchbacks. Consider taking 60 west and south down through Show Low and Globe. What is your ultimate destination, I-10 to head back east or? :C
  • If you plan to stop at Canyon de Chelly, there is a campground there. Unless you are in a hurry, this is well worth at least an overnight stop to check out an interesting location. It is a national monument on native land and native guides are required to go on the canyon floor.
