US 2 doesn't begin on the west side until Everett farther south. WA 20 which begins at it's intersection with US 101 to the west of Port Townsend and goes all the way east is a good highway; there are some narrower sections though. You will especially enjoy WA 20 as it goes through Cascades National Park which begins a few miles east of Sedro-Woolley. If you want to travel eastward across WA on US 2, begin at Everett where it intersects I-5, this is an excellent highway and crosses a lot of beautiful wheat country east of Wenatchee. Good place to stop for a great blackberry milkshake is Wilbur, a little town east of the river. A perfect campground is at the state park along the Columbia River jus north of East Wenatchee right on US 2, think it's called Lincoln Rock. Just take your time on either road, not much traffic and certainly much nicer trip than I-90!
