You are mistaking WA-20 for US-2. WA-20 goes from Sedro-Woolley to Kettle Falls. US-2 goes from Everett to Spokane farther south.
We did SR-20 last month with our TT from Burlington on I-5 through Sedro-Woolley, over the N. Cascades, through Kettle Falls all the way to its terminus at Newport, WA on the Idaho border where it meets with US-20. Over 400 miles and a beautiful drive. A slow drive at times so you can’t be in a hurry...but very scenic.
WA-20 over the Cascades wasn’t opened until the early 70’s so in 1957 you would have taken US-2 over Stevens Pass to cross the mountains. We were a lot younger back then. Memories fog...mine do anyway.
