Highway Shootings Precautions

With the rash of shootings along I-10 in Phoenix and the unsolved shootings along I-25 in Northern Colorado, have you taken any precautions traveling in these areas. If so, what have they been? I guess the safest course is to avoid the areas or re-route. For those in these areas, do you think the increased police presence has made the area safer? CW may need to add Kevlar to their catalog/store inventory. Sadly, it's becoming like Kabul over here.

There are other hazards on that stretch of the I10 highway as well. Wife was driving to work at the local hospital many years back and was following a large truck that didn't have his hugh and heavy spare tire lashed down good.. Several cars behind the truck had to dodge this bouncing spare tire going down the middle of the Interstate. This was back in the late 60s or early 70s... Another time back then the Interstate flooded big time...

We have had a similar incident here on I64 near Charlottevile VA a few years back with some dude shooting at folks from a I64 overpass... They finally carried that dude away...

Makes one keep a close eye on all of the overpasses when approaching them...

    Be safe out there guys...

  • I covered the roof of my motorhome in sandbags, and ordered bullet proof glass, like I have for my car. Sadly I have to delay my trip, because the bullet proof glass in 4' square sheets takes extra time for delivery. . .
  • I wouldn't deviate at all myself. Chances are you'll get hit by lightning long before being shot at...
  • relax and enjoy the travels....there are a lot of nuts out there. there are 320 million of us so i wouldn't lose any sleep over this.
  • If you're traveling through the area, it may we wise to take a detour. If you have plans in the area, I 'probably' wouldn't change them.
A RV could be an interesting target for the idiot(s) doing the shooting.

There was a similar incident years ago in Maryland/Virginia/DC.
  • Are you more likely to be hit by a bullet or a car on these highways?
