Hiway 50 vs 33 in West Virgina

Will need to be traveling in the eastern part of West Virginia, going to Petersburg. With a 37' Class A towing, will it be easier on us to use Hwy 50 or Hwy 33 to the east of I-79? Hwy 33 seems to be a better route.

Thanks.
  • It's amazing that so many people camp in the Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, Seneca Rocks areas if the roads are as bad as some make them sound. Rt. 33 is four-lane highway from I79 all the way to Elkins. The road from Bowden to Harman to Petersburg is a beautiful driving road, but perhaps a bit much for your rig. I have driven (and towed) that route numerous times. I have never approached Petersburg from the north (come down 220 from I68 maybe?). Maybe someone else has input on that route.
  • I went back and looked at the map, and we have been across part of 33 also. Another road that you cant't get there on. We were in a HHR that trip, and would never do it again. Those roads are only for mule powered log and coal wagons. Lots of folks up in those hills have never gotten out. Lots going in have never made it back out either.
  • Never been on 33, but that section of 50 is great for motorcycles or sporty cars. Not good for much else.
  • With a rig that size, you probably can not get there on US 50 at all! Might make it with a teardrop behind a 4w jeep. Never have tried 33. Go up to I83 and across Cumberland. Been that way several times with older MH.
