The way to avoid the tolls between Elkhart and Chicago. Grab the US 20 bypass South of Elkhart and follow it to SW of South Bend - that is four lane restricted access.
Then take Indiana Rt 2 West from the 20 bypass, that then merges back into US 20 in Rolling Prairie. The follow US 20 to I-94. Four lane with light traffic all the way across.
