And I thought Indiana had bad roads

Went through Illinois recently and also noticed a lot of un mowed median. No money. I think they have finally run out of other peoples money.

They're hoping the bad roads will keep people from escaping before the politicans can drain their pockets.

Don't expect the roads to get better anytime soon. We are starting year 3 without a budget. The state hasn't been paying bills as a result. There are $14.3 billion in unpaid bills the last I heard. The state's bond rating may be reduced to junk status soon. The leaders of both parties are to blame. The governor has been running campaign commercials since he was elected but doesn't talk to the legislators. The Speaker of the House has an enormous amount of political clout. Neither of these two wants to compromise.
I wish we could bring back the old days where they would be tarred and feathered, put on a rail and run across the state line. Probably can't afford the tar and feathers anyway.

That's bad! We stopped at a Casey's fuel station to fill up with diesel, also needed a little break and bathroom stop from all the giggling and bouncing.... really hard on old folks bladders you know! Even the poor dog had to go, and the cat vomited from all the bouncing.

Anyway, since I was at the Casey's for diesel, and was inside for the bathroom, on my way out I thought I'd go ahead and get my weekly Powerball and MegaMillions lottery tickets. I left Indiana and didn't get my usual one on Friday for the next drawing.

I couldn't get the tickets as of today because the teller told me the state had no budget. Well, I'll miss Saturday's drawing, but we'll be in Minnesota tomorrow and then South Dakota on Monday. Maybe I'll have a couple more chances to get my tickets!

Meanwhile, we're at the KOA and all settled down for the night. Went for a dip in the pool, did laundry where the cat vomited, had supper and trying to stay cool. We're pooped! Too much bouncing today!

Yep. Illinois is paying the piper - though not paying anyone else - and evidently those traveling thru the state are too.

Many states are letting roads, state parks, and schools go to crud. Politicians are so afraid to even think about raising taxes to maintain essential services and infrastructure while refusing to root out their own corruption. And then there are states that have dug their own grave with unfunded obligations that consume their entire budgets and thus have no money for daily operations. Swell.

Understandable. A great place to avoid until the spendthrifts get their act together (then another 10 years to actually get anything done?). Of course Chicago wasn't a high priority place for me to visit any time. A totally failed State and the Dem's just keep talking and spending. Bet the Legislature's salaries will still continue regardless of what happens, but the Illinois people elected them. Now maybe they'll begin to understand what they did by continually electing the same fools.

let me know the roads to avoid- we are headed to SD in August. hopefully we can get through Illinois without too many stops.
we saw the lotto report on the news today- that should be easy money for the state.

We go north on US51/39. Not bad at all. 2 lane, some x-way type areas around cities and little traffic.
