Ohio & Indiana Toll Roads prices

Ohio is anti RV in any ways. This is only one example.
I do everything I can to avoid spending any money with a business in Ohio.
I am proud to say I have divert over $50,000 from state of Ohio businesses suggest others do the same and then email the governor of Ohio.

We have been full-time for 5 1/2 years and been 90 miles from Chicago in IL the past 3 summers also traveling to MI each of those summers. We haven't paid a toll yet in the time we have been out here. Travel the US routes as much as possible and miss most of the semi traffic and the large cities.

I don't work in Melrose Park any more. When I found that I was being billed for not using the I-Pass, they got it back.

Michigan has no toll roads at all and only one toll bridge that is not an international crossing. (Actually, there are two, but the other is easy to by-pass.) I try to avoid that one toll bridge because it is a very serious rip-off in my case. It they raise that fare another 50c, it will be cheaper for me to drive around the lake.

US 12 or old Chicago road in Michigan is just mile or two north of the Ind toll road, Don't remember quick accesses from Toll road in Ohio but should not be far.
Once past Coldwater it is mostly open rural country. There are some small towns but only one, and Sturgis has about three lights. A long way into Illinois before too much congestion.

Unfortunately, the politicians have found tolls are a way to impose a tax on the public in a way that they can deny it's a tax. The general procedure is to raise the rate on the part of the population that are few enough that they cannot generate a meaningful protest (Trucks, RV'ers, commercial users) and who can just pass it along to the public in the form of higher freight rates and delivery charges. They sometimes give the locals (in-staters) a few cents break over the outsiders to keep their lily white hands clean with their locals. Just keep going around and refusing to be held up.

AT the IN/IL state line use I94 to US20 to IN2 to to US20 Bypass around South Bend and Elkhart take CR17 5 miles north on the east side of Elkhart to the Toll Road. Just missed 2/3 of the 150+ miles that is Indiana Toll Road on 4 lane divided highways.

We use route 30 across OH and IN to avoid the tolls and truck traffic on I80. Heading west on I80 we pick up I76 to I71 to route 30 near Mansfield OH. We use I65 to rejoin I80 near Gary IN. This route is about 20 miles longer than staying on I80 but a pleasant drive through mostly farm country. Route 30 is divided highway with few traffic lights until Valparaiso IN.

US 30 is an excellent alternative.
