I will delay 1 more day and leave Monday morning. That will give a buffer of 20 hours past what they project the closure will last.
SIGH. Why are you so reluctant to choose a different route ??
Others who actually LIVE THERE will be timing their return home about the same as your plan......and I think there are near to HALF A MILLION evacuees that will be clogging 95.
Going 85/75 through Atlanta might only add 4-5 hours to your trip and it should be much smoother. I-81 to 75 would be even better; leave whenever you please.
Do try to make the smart choice here.
I live on Long Island in NY. When Hurricane Sandy hit, affecting me personally , I never worried about who was driving on I-495 , the main highway on Long Island. At the time I had other issues to think about besides the demographics of motorists. I posted this thread hoping to get a lead on reliable ,real time sources of information to help me make an informed choice on departure and route not a moral assessment of my motives. I have a home in southern Florida I need to get to. And yes , I prefer I-95 for speed and directness. Im driving alone , wont be staying in a hotel ,and my endurance ability puts limits on how far out of the way its practical to go. That said, I will be looking at the alternative routes suggested and if as of late tonight it looks to make more sense to go I81 to I75 , that's what I'll do.
