Does this route make sense?
I95 to Richmond, I85 to Atlanta and pick up I75 there. I think Richmond is well north of the trouble spots.
As of noon today I95 and I40 in NC both had sections that were blocked with no estimate on when they might re-open. At that time there were still ongoing water rescues and most of the rivers were still rising.
The effect to you will be that the I77 & I85 area around Charlotte is where a large number of the evacuees went. Plus a scheduled NASCAR race in Charlotte this weekend. Plus I85 will be the route of choice for all the normal I95 traffic that will be trying to avoid the storm damaged area of NC & SC. Imagine all the normal I95 truck traffic added to all the normal I85 traffic.
Depending on when the evacuees can start home, I85 between Winston-Salem and Greenville/Spartanburg could have extra high traffic volumes. Make sure you have a plan B if I85 becomes totally overwhelmed.
