Hwy 200

Personally I would not drive it from Lazaro Cardenas to Maruata. I have met people who have been held up along there, and last spring the Green Angels declined to escort our group that way so we detoured inland. It's OK for a couple of hours south of Manzanillo so the newly reopened Rancho Buganvillas is fine. If you do, I would advise doing it with 2 or more rigs.

  • I have to laugh when French Canadian RV'ers shake their head and warn me "Do Not Tell Them!" about the non problems of traveling the length of Mex 200 in Michoacan.

"Wait! Wait! Luis! Do not mortar this one. Through my binoculars I can see it has license plates from Quebec!"
  • Sandy and Cindy! Yes tell us more. Was one of our favorite stops EVER!

  • Rancho Buganvillas has reopened? With Sandy and Terry (we think their names were)? Same place? Tell us more!!
  • You might want to ask the US Embassy why they told SECTUR to dissuade the Angeles Verdes from escorting caravans there, even though they didn't go there anyway. From the lips of 2 Green Angels crews in Tecoman, Colima.

In the Thirty Years I have been traveling that highway and the many years I have lived on it, I have NEVER SEEN or NEVER HEARD OF an Angeles Verdes truck being on that road between Cerro de Ortega and Lazaro Cardenas. Pretty thorough counter-check, at the gasolineras (there are 3 between Cerro de Ortega and the outskirts of Lazaro). There are plenty of other highways in Mexico sans service as well -- the stretch between Tepantepec and Tuxtla Guiterrez, Chiapas on Mex 190 is another travel favorite.

In 2016 I asked a crew who was patrolling Mex 14-D between Uruapan and Morelia if they had any plans to include that stretch. Their reply verbatim

Our route is between Morelia and Zihuatanejo. We join Ruta 2010 south of Lazaro Cardenas then proceed to Zihuatanejo.
