Hwy 26 in Oregon?

Question

Next summer we would like to take Hwy 26 in Oregon from Redmond to John Day and then to Baker City on 7 OR better yet continue on Hwy 26 to Payette, ID and on to Boise.  How is it for getting diesel along this route?  We have a 26 gal diesel tank on F250 towing a 30' fifth wheel. We are wanting to go southeast and get over onto I-84.  Never been in this area before. Will avoid SE Oregon since there are hardly any towns to get fuel.  THANKS so much in advance for advice.

Should be able to do it with no problem.Fuel up in Prineville, check fuel at John Day(125 miles) and then into Vale (120 miles) and  Ontario.Many of the little bergs also have fuel.

Go to a truck stop and purchase the Truck Stop Directory. And there are other non truck stop stations that you can use including SE Oregon. Everyone living in those areas needsgas and diesel.

I'd guess that the only place you would have trouble getting fuel in the US is on the dirt roads in Western Alaska but sled dogs don't use fuel. :B

If you are in Baker city, you will already be at I-84 straight into Boise.  There would be no need to go through Payette unless that is a specific stop on your trip.  There are truck stops in Baker and Ontario, as well as diesel available in Fruitland.  From there on in to Boise, there are also a couple more truck stops.

Swore never to bother again... a rather dry ugly drive,  curvy, dirty, kinda slow in spots.  Certainly do-able, though.  Since you are going to John Day, you really don't have much other choice without adding many miles. We always take Highway 20 when traveling through Oregon now ... a much superior drive.   You can do Highway 26 but don't expect too much for the view or the drive....   ?
