Oregon hwy. 26

This looks like a very doable route from Portland to hwy 101. We will be driving in this area in late September to early October.

Just wondering if there are any problems associated with this road. I don't have any problems with mountain driving or winding roads but I do hate surprises.

Any information will be appreciated.
  • Major route to the coast. I don't think you will have any surprises. Keep an eye out for Camp 18 Restaurant and Museum. Real interesting stop even if you don't eat.

X2, the breakfast is a lumber jacks dream:)

Great road and RV friendly. You have 1 little climb over a hill about 2500 ft. elavation but the hill part only last for about 20 min.

    x2 on camp 18.

Personally I prefer highway 6 to the coast rather than 26, much less traffic. Roads are similar. However, depends on where you want to get to on 101. far north, take 26, otherwise, I prefer 6 or 22/18 from salem.

and on highway 6 when you get to tillamook, head north a few miles and stop at the Tillamook cheese factory for a good huge ice cream cone.
  • Highway 26 is OK (heavily traveled) if you want to go a bit north on 101 but if you're headed south, I much prefer 22/18 from Salem.
  • Sasquatches frequent Highway 26 near the tunnel and by the old Elderberry Inn.
September/October is great time to see colors in some of the valleys.
