Hwy 82 into Aspen

I live in Glenwood. 82 is fine from here to Aspen, but once there, you'll have to turn around, as Independence Pass is not an option. And Aspen isn't built for trailers, the streets aren't wide and there's no reason to take one there. Pconroy, you might actually be OK in a small Class C around town there. I sure wouldn't try to take it over the pass, though. You wouldn't have any trouble going over McClure Pass. Redstone and the Crystal River are really pretty.

OP was asking about taking Co 82 from US 24 near Twin Lakes into Aspen over Independence Pass.

If you really want to see Aspen stay on 24 ti I 70 and then west to Glenwood Springs. Leave your rig in one of the Cgs around Glenwood and drive south on 82 to Aspen No RV parking areas closer to Aspen..

Also be aware that dump stations are very scarce in the Aspen area -- if I recall correctly, unless you are actually staying at an RV park with full hookups, there is nothing available to the public, even if you are willing to pay for the privilege.

Your post indicates you're going to be in the Arkansas River Valley (Hwy 24); why not consider staying at one of the many campgrounds in the valley, in Buena Vista or Leadville and surrounding area? Great advice - while it might make for a long day it is a beautiful drive - IMHO it is different in each direction, so...........

Do not miss the Bells while in Aspen, it seems to me that they have a CG right outside the Bells that might be available Look Here .

As for CG's, very few options. Land is just too expensive. Aspen-Basalt CG has a lot of full timers. Maybe the closest best option is the Gateway RV park in Carbondale run by the city. Up the Crystal River, there's a "new" KOA. It used to be the BRB Crystal River CG. They've put some upgrades into it since the change, like a new bathroom. Never stayed at any of these, so can't comment on how they are.
