Hwy 97 Oregon/ Washington

camp spots between Bend and Levenworth off hwy 97? prefer to boon dock.
  • There wont be any. Most of that is wide open range land. There is a nice camp ground at Biggs on the WA side.
  • Boon dock - as in parking lots or forest service dispersed camping?

There are some state parks along the way - Maryhill at the Columbia, Brooks Memorial in the forest north of there. There are some BLM site along the Yakima River, WA821. Otherwise much of the land along the highway is private ranch, Yakima Reservation, or military.

Towns, except for Yakima, are small.

Forest service preferred but if just a quick lay over and no other choice a parking lot will have to do. I'll check out along the river, thanks. Can you be a little more spefic as to where off 821 along river?
  • WA 821 takes off I-82 near Selah,WA and follows the Yakima River. Several nice BLM campgrounds. I think the best is Big Pine. Gets busy in hot weather and weekends.

Thanks just what I wanted, looks like a nice drive and a place for a 1 night stop over. Not much for the paved lot but being near the water is nice.
  • There is paved roads and camp sites. It is not just a parking lot.
Photo in this link is deceiving as it is for tent site.

This link shows sites better in the map section

  • I"d also suggest browsing the route with Google Maps streetview.

The drive along the Yakima river is scenic - but quite different from the mountains further north (e.g Blewett Pass on 97). Much drier.
