  • Yes sir navybanker I was on those roads yesterday only north bound and trust me that is the way to go !! It is some 2 lane from Kennett, MO until you get on 67 south then 4 lanes to LR not bad at all. There was some construction on 67 north of Searcy , it goes into 1 lane in a couple places but we rolled right on thru.
  • Since I am in NW Tennessee, will probably cross Mississippi at Dyersburg ,Tennessee to Kenneth,Missouri to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to Little Rock to miss the Memphis and Forrest City construction on I 40. It looks like a limited access highway from just south of Walnut Ridge to Little Rock.
    Anyone familiar with these roads?
  • Another option is to take US Hwy 64 from Conway east and I-55 South to I-40 (only on I-55 about 4-5 miles). Reverse if westbound.

This is the route they are sending oversize loads.
  • Folks I live just north of Memphis and let me tell you that traffic can be a nightmare from Little Rock until you are east of Memphis.Road construction is a continuing nightmare around here.Since I-40 was built ,many years ago ,it has been under constant construction from Memphis to Little Rock You can get off any I-40 exit and drive Hwy.70.It used to be the main route to LR and beyond. Also there is major road work on the east side of Memphis,so if you make it into Memphis don't think you are finished with delays.Have a safe trip
  • Traveled I-40 Easton July 5, a Saturday morning and drove right through with no delays.

Traveled back on Sunday, July 20, West, and got stuck for about 15 minutes of slow driving. We could see traffic moving right along on Highway 70 but I am not sure how drivers ended up on that detour.

That same day, traveling West there was another back-up just before Hope.

Lots of 18 wheelers and I think they just take up more room but not sure.
  • Hi from AZ. . . is it my imagination, or has I-40 in Arkansas had 2 or 3 major construction zones for the last 4 or 5 years. What a pain. . . AND don't go near Little Rock on 40 near rush hour, apparently everybody uses I-430/440 to get to town. Not fun. And previous poster is right, bypassing is not a good option. The 1 time we tried that, it took longer than the construction back-up:R. . . . Regards, Craig
  • I went through there Sunday and it was backed up for about 5 miles. You can take hwy. 70 through Forrest City but that can get backed up too. Sunday they had a minor wreck on 70 in FC and 70 was at a stand still for about 45 mins. That portion of I 40 can be a night mare !!!! I'm going to Chicago from Houston and you can bet I'm taking 67 north at Little Rock and work my way north and east to I 55 to avoid I 40 at FC !!
