  • Hwy 89 from Redding is a good road....mostly 2 lane with a few passing lanes. Allow approx. 2-2/2 hours either going north or southbound to or from
    Mt. Shasta.
  • I haven't been on 89. Out of Redding, I have taken 139 to 39 north into Klamath Falls before when landslides and snow closed both I-5 and 101 years ago. I don't remember any bad grades, and it was a good road.
  • Goggle Maps suggested a detour on Hwy 89. It looks like a long detour. Anyone know the road conditions & terrain of the area in comparing to I-5. I can barely climb up Siskiyou Summit southbound with a 8k TT in tow. Hopefully it won't have steeper grade than that.
  • Caltrans is not reporting any issues re US 395 as of 12:45 pm Saturday.

I could hardly believe it when I read about the 17 semis abandoned by their drivers in the middle of the freeway. And I don't know how many cars. It must have been a crazy, terrifying scene.
  • the Portland news just announced that I-5 will be closed all weekend and probably a lot longer than that
  • And US 395 is closed north of Bridgeport, CA due to the Boot Fire.
  • Yup and its not going to get any better for a couple of months at least in California.
