I-59 Condition Between Birmingham and Chattanooga?

Last July we travelled north on I-59 from Birmingham headed home to Tennessee. The north bound stretch literally was a washboard and our fiver bounced like crazy. We had to slow way down below the speed limit. Hopefullly it was on a priority list for re-surfacing. Has anyone come that way lately? And is it the same on the southbound side (we had gone south via another route)? Thanks!!

  • We were that way just a couple weeks ago on a tour bus and it did not seem too bad.

    Thanks!!
  • I like the people who have pulled over and gotten out to see if they have a flat tire. I had friends who took I-59 as part of their trip west. They were travelinging with their daughter. She kept calling her parents on the cellphone insisting she had problems with her car. They had to keep reassuring her that it was the road.
  • I usually travel the inside lane as much as possible.

I remember that road very well... I had to travel to Texas from Gatlinburg TN several times in a three month period and always traveled down I59.

My poor OFF-RoaD POPUP would come off the ground bouncing behind so much. Speed didnt real matter... I noticed all of the truckers would run the edge of the roads through there...

There was raised concrete sections every 8-feet all through there.

My tires started wearing funny on one side after I quit running that road section and after inspection I found the tire weights on that one side had been knocked loose so I blamed that section of road haha...

This road was bad for several years back so glad to hear it may be fixed by now.
