I 65 in Southern Indiana
Is I 65 still a mess from Seymour to Louisville? Should I take an alternate route when heading south soon?

If you are coming from Ohio you can take 70 to New Castle and then take 3 South & get on 65 at Scottsburg. We have done this a couple times this summer and it is not a bad drive and avoids all the construction on 65.
