I'm surprised no one has mentioned taking US 50. Our preferred route to CA from CO. More scenic IMHO. Not as fast, but more to see. May not be high end RV resorts along the way, but the historic towns and interesting scenery make up for it. Check out Cave Lake SP near Ely for a cooler place to stop (yes, with a lake). Or spend a day at Great Basin NP, tour the cave, and head up high for some cool respite on the flanks of Mt. Wheeler. Kids will love either of those stops.
