I was mostly asking for what it's like on the I80 route. There are few towns and looked like not much to see through that part of Nevada. So I was curious what thoughts people had about the route if they had taken it before.
My advice was based on travelling both of these routes (I-80 and US 50) well over 100 times each. Unless you have some pressing need to stay on I-80, I'd opt for US 50. And US 50 is more scenic than US 6. If you must take I-80, Elko is the biggest burg with the most amenities along I-80. But between crossing the Black Rock Desert and then the Salt Flats, you're in for a long, monotonous drive. If you're planning a summer trip, the Las Vegas route can be exceedingly hot.
