Some really great real life info from you folks that tour books don't give. A few more questions about the 301 portion - how are gas stations for easy access with a TT being towed? Also if weather is really cold and an overnight in a motel needed any tips on ones with large parking lots? Thanks again.
OK, speaking of Route 301, from the C & D Canal south all the way to the Bay Bridge over to Annapolis, there is very little civilization - there's a little bit around Middletown, about 10 miles south of the Canal, but then there's really nothing until you hit Queenstown down by the bridge. Just look at it on Google Maps...
On the other side of the Bay, after you leave US 50 and bear left between Annapolis and Wash. DC, there is some civilization for the next 20 or so miles through La Plata and Waldorf and the lot, but then you cross the Potomac and hit the hinterlands again, go through the army Fort A P Hill, and then there's not much at all until Richmond. Your best bet is to really peer at Google Maps and see what you will be going through. It is the EXACT opposite of taking I-95 - in decent weather, very relaxed, almost bucolic, completely stress free. In nasty weather, you'll think you're the subject of a Discovery Channel documentary on Stranded Polar Explorers Never Heard From Again...
