I80 and I70

Spindrift, If you do happen to get on 70 entering the St. Louis area, the Casino Queen in E. St. Louis, Ill is a good place to stop. We have stayed there 3 times. They have pull thrus and full hookups and also have a valet service that will take you from the camping area to the casino for food and gambling. Also if you are in the camping area they also will take you to the hotel on premise and you can use to indoor pool for free. Have a good trip and Safe Travels.

Just did I-70 from Indianapolis to Cambridge Ohio and do it to the OH line all the time. From OH line to Indianapolis is just terrible rough pulling a trailer. We traveled Rt 40 from Richmond to Knightstown on Rt. 40. The towns are small and the 40 is 4 lane with 60 MPH speed limit and way smoother than I-70. I would take interstate through Indianapolis but not at rush hour. There is construction on the South side on I-465 that is OK any time except rush hour. Time lost on 40 would be way less than going through Cinci and back up to Indy.

Yes, it goes through the same mountain range as the PA turnpike. I don't think there are any grades steeper than 6%, but there are a number of ups and downs. Check out the Mountain Directory East, it covers most of the route. I-64 has a lot less traffic than I-70 or the turnpike. In the Fall when the leaves are changing it is a very scenic drive.

If you want to go to St. Louis and Kansas City, consider taking I-68 to I-79 to I-64 to St. Louis instead of staying on I-70 where it turns North to join the PA Turnpike through the mountains of central PA.

Wow, tt, I never even considered that route. Looks very, very interesting. Do you have personal experience taking that route? And yes, the DW wants to stop in St. Louis to see a friend.

Yes we have done all the interstate routes I discussed more than once. We have also used US-34,36,50,54,56 & 400 across the plains states.
