You have to go by Revelstoke and see the railroad museum. It's a great place. One of the neat things is the inside full size locomotive and usually there will be one of the old timers there who used to operate it to answer questions about it and tell stories.
We got there right a closing time one evening so we spent the night in the parking lot. We did the museum the next day. There was a terrible accident out on the highway and was shut down for about eight hours so we went up to hydro-electric dam on the Columbia River. It was maybe a 30 minute drive from the museum. Because of the wreck we spent a second night in their parking lot. If you do spend the night there, be aware the main rail line runs by on the side of the parking lot - a train goes by about every 30 minutes. Luckily I can sleep through about anything.
