X3! Plus Old NC 105, which is a dirt road up the Blue Ridge Escarpment on the west side of Linville Gorge almost the the BRP and Linville Falls. Going up, 4WD is pretty much required in wet weather, but it's scenic as heck in the fall and winter.
Of all fall color drives, it's my most favoritest long day trip loop. Down I-40 to Lake James, up the BRP on Old 105, short hikes & lunch at at Wiseman's View & Linville Falls, home on the BRP. On the right day, you can see all four seasons in a day with the change in elevation, summer at the bottom, early winter at the top.

PCH at sunset
RT 128
Independence Pass on the perfect DAY in September.
These along with many of the others mentioned earlier, have left their lasting impression imprinted in my mind. They all represent what I think we are looking for in the RV adventure.
JMHO,

I like to travel the old US Highways, most are two lane.
Staying off the Interstate as much as possible is one of my main likes. Sorry, I can't give you just one.
You can't see America from the Interstate system.
I'll drink to that. Mind you it's a good chance to catch up on your sleep.
I still have to do the Mother Road from Chicago, we've done bits and pieces on our travels and have met some interesting people along the way. - John_M1ExplorerAnother vote for the Beartooth, although it was a tough decision between that and Hwy 61 on Superior's North Shore.
(How's that for sneaking in two answers?) - Bill_and_ToodieExplorerHighway 1 from Jenner to Fort Bragg, CA. A bit hairy for big rigs but amazing views of our beautiful Pacific Coast. Watch out for the bicyclists!
- j3ff9ackExplorerUS Highway 12 from Lewiston, ID to Missoula, MT
- dave54NomadAre we limited to paved roads?
I could name dozens of unpaved unsurfaced unmarked forest and BLM roads that are absolutely stunning, and very people ever drive them. - EsoxLuciusExplorer
