If you're in MD and headed north, you might consider running up through York on I-81, and then heading to H'burg and then north on US 22/322 to the Duncannon area just north of town. Then take US 15, the "Susquehanna Trail" north straight up through Williamsport, and Corning, NY. It's an interesting drive, divided highway almost all the way, and flat until you hit Williamsport, along the Susquehanna River. Somewhere north of W'port, US 15 becomes the new Interstate 99 up to Corning. Long, sweeping curves with nice views of the valleys and hills, very easy drive. Something different than I-81 when heading north. Look at it on a map to get a feel for where it goes, and if it fits your plans.
