Most (except for border areas) businesses, taxis, etc, take only pesos. Change houses are few and far between, IF there are any at all in the location you are in."
I recently went on a cruise to Mexico with stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas and I paid for cabs, excursions, meals and souvenirs with U.S. dollars. One eating establishment (a U.S. fast food chain) would accept U.S. dollars but give change back in Mexican currency.
No matter where you go in the world U.S. greenbacks are always welcomed by most merchants, even if the governments in those countries don't approve of the practice.
