What's the drive like from Jasper, AB to Lake Louise, AB? looks like it's about 140 miles on Icefields Pkwy (RT 93). Wondering about road conditions (i.e. curvy, inclines).
You will see many lakes like the above along the Parkway, absolutely gorgeous. To affirm what has been mentioned, don't buy gas at Saskatchewan River Crossing. I did a few years ago and paid almost twice the going price per liter. Also don't buy anything in the store unless you want to pay 2-3 times the average price.
Budget a lot of time for this drive -- all day, or more (if you camp near the Icefields). You will be making a lot of stops. There are wonderful hikes that take off from the road -- but even if you just pull over to gawk, it is still amazing:
That is really the real color of the water. There is a lot of glacial flour (powdered rock) in the water -- it colors the lakes turquoise.
As others have said, it is one of the most beautiful drives in North America....not to ne missed. Take your time and pull over often to enjoy the views. Also, try to avoid the gas station in the middle of the Parkway as they rip you off on price. Gas up in Jasper and you'll be ok till Banff. I traveled up the Parkway in May and came back down in July. It was almost like two different roads as far as the scenery was concerned.
I think it's an incredibly easy drive. Nice wide highway, gentle slopes (only pass is going to the Icefileds, and it's pretty easy), and lots of places to pull over. Nothing thrilling, like big drop offs. I've seen big rigs with seniors driving with smiles on their faces. It's called a parkway for a reason.
Beautiful drive, and not very difficult. Fill up your tank in Banff and you should be good to Jasper, or vice versa. As others have said, take time to stop at the visitors center and go out onto the glacier.
