- BillMFlExplorerBeen a long time since visiting St Thomas and St Johns. We used to visit a different Carib Island area every year on vacation. Jamaica, Antigua, Guadalupe, etc. Easy trips from Florida, but we don't travel out of the US anymore. Our last two overseas vacations were to Ireland/England and Australia. Slowing down on travel now.
We have friends who live in the hilly suburbs of Hartford we visit now and then. I was in Conn just minutes from the school the night before the horrible shooting. Left my hotel early in the morning before it happened. I kinda avoid 84 now unless I take it to/from 684 during off peak traffic hours. 87/287/78 has become my preferred route lately with 78/33/209 an alternative. 81/75 used to be the way I would head south but now I tend to cross over to 95 near Richmond. 81 truck traffic seems to get worse every year. Like you I do like some of the back roads thru SC and Ga. Sometimes stay at a tiny little RV park at Wrens, Ga just SW of Columbia and Augusta. The US1 and 441 thru central Ga. Cotton fields, tobacco and onion farms and pine forests. A few small towns but light traffic. - ct1964upsExplorer

Ya we sure do Chuck. Speaking of 209, I used to stay at River Beach instead of Tri State when I had smaller Rvs. Last year I stayed at Deer Park on 209 just north of Port Jervis and the next day ran north on 209 up to the Kingston entrance onto 87 then to 90. Saved on tolls and that stretch of 209 isn't bad at all. If you ever get up to Boothbay, Shore Hills is the place to stay. And if you don't bring a toad they have a free shuttle into the Harbor. I stay in East Boothbay at our cottage right on the water. Got room for my MH and a 50amp connection for my motor home. We use the MH when family comes up to visit. I'll be north bound towards the end of May. When do you head north?
Too many trees in River Park...but we have a place off 84 in Ct..so we head out straight from there...we have been to Shore Hills and tell friends to go there..
we go to St Thomas in the V.I. for the winter til we sell the place...this year leave the start of April...grab Motorhome and head to Florida/Ga for the month of April....being heading north last week of April fo grandson's first communion...Chuck - BillMFlExplorerYa we sure do Chuck. It is hard to find a direct north-south road to Tallahassee. Going down I-75 to intersect with I-10 puts you too far east. I should have explained that we use the I-40 (in TN) to I-75 because our other home is in extreme western NC. We don't mind towing through Atlanta, lived there for 10 years. lizzie
Now, that makes sense.....but going from Cordele on Ga 300 to Ga 19 to Tally the way to go
but I might even think of going over and going down 59 thru Birmingham and Montgomery....thru Dothan to I-10..nice ride and different......but never calculated the mileage..Chuck
Bill,
I missed it in your reply.....you and I ,seem to do the same routes most of the time...probably meet you one of these days......I will stop all over the place....Lee-High,Falling Waters,Ft Chiswell,Barnyard,Mohegan Sun..Pocono Downs,Baliyton RV..Tn,Tall Oaks,Tri-State....if we come up 209.....all depends when I leave and which way I want to go....Look for a good Moose or Elks Lodge..also,

Hey Chuck, I suggested the Birmingham route in my first reply. Its a nice drive and avoids Atlanta. Going to Tampa I go further east like you do. I like Deer Run RV Park by Troy on the way to Dothan for a nice overnight stop. Easy to Tallahassee the next day. - ct1964upsExplorer

Much as I like Barnyard and that little home style southern food place nearby, I Wouldn't drive that far east to get to Tallahassee. I do use 441 thru Ga on my way N/S when time is not a factor. Lots of nice two lane roads thru rural Ga.
Actually, when at the Barnyard...I unhook and go to Garibaldi's for some Flash Fried Flounder...excellent...lol...
But,I can't believe anyone would go so far west to turn back east going down 40 to Knoxville......
look on map the route down thru Columbia,SC is west, then straight south then west then straight south for last leg....almost in a straight line...Chuck - ct1964upsExplorer

I will be departing Maine on a Tuesday. Didn't think about Sunday being a bad day, but that makes sense.
