I realy appreciate you taking time to give me more and more informations
From the comments I had so far I think I will forget about the Trans Labrador loop
I will alow more time visiting NL and going up as far as Blanc Sablon and Mary's Harbor
Visiting the east coast first and then the west coast and if we still have time Cape breton
Gaetan - Little_KopitExplorerReport from friend who was just up as far as Happy Valley - Goose Bay.
"They are working on the road between Red Bay and Port Hope Simpson. taking our the rock cuts and going around and making it a bit wider. Lots of heavy traffic on the road at times. "
:C - GaetanExplorerThanks for the precisions it is greatly appreciated
Gaetan - Little_KopitExplorerI got a reply to my query to Transportation and Works re. routes 500 and 510, specifically:
"What parts of these two routes have pavement?
Are connecting roads paved.
Please advise."
Reply:
"In response to your email requesting road surface condition;
Ø Route 500 (Boarder in Labrador West to Goose Bay) is 546 km, of which 486 is paved and 60 km is a well graded gravel surface.
Ø Route 510 (Goose Bay to L’anse au Clair) is 606 km, of which 80 km is paved and 526 is a well graded gravel surface.
All of the connecting / access roads have a well graded gravel surface. As an added note, the gravel road within Labrador is well maintained, wet weather and gravel roads generally don’t provide the ideal driving conditions."
:B - lonnie4801ExplorerWe will be starting up it about 15 June 2015 but the date is flexible. Any one else planning on going next year?
- Little_KopitExplorerYou could also try towns, as found via google.ca, http://www.happyvalley-goosebay.com/ .
Ask them a couple of questions, one of which would be roads going to and from that town and nearby road repairs.
Dates of special events and local festivals, name of newspaper and maybe online url, also.
:C - dcasonExplorerWhen we travelled that route last year it was not but they were actively working on it and a lot of time has passed since the end of June last year. If you look on the page below it gives construction workings...which will tell you what is currently being paved or upgraded. Upgraded just means it is not paved.
Page for construction.
I had a difficult time figuring out last year what exactly was paved and what was not. The info I had was a bit old so we were pleasantly surprised when more was paved than we had expected.
You may or may not get a response from them; I did not last year. - Little_KopitExplorerYou might use the 'contact' for Transportation and Works given on this webpage: http://www.roads.gov.nl.ca/cameras/
I know quite a bit of those routes have been paved, but am not sure of current conditions, or of the paving on connector roads.
