But going to Albuquerque is good, too. you can take 285 south (catch it east of Albuquerque) to Ft. Stockton on I 10 to 290 and east to Austin.
I-40 bump, bump, bump then more bumps and when it get better, more bumps up ahead. But it is 4 lanes.
