- ppineExplorer IIIt's a lot like going to Death Valley in the summer.
- trigleyExplorerSome more pretty pictures.
Have to love your enthusiasm and I would really encourage you or others to go see. But when you are talking about north of the Arctic Circle there are many valid reasons it has always been so sparsely populated. You might even meet someone anxious to visit boring Southern Cal.:D - profdant139Explorer IIYes, it is cold and dark. A great change from the endless summer of Southern Calif -- weeks of dry 75 degree weather. I'm going to the beach tomorrow -- surf's up -- but I would trade it in a minute for some time in the Arctic. Variety is the spice of life!
- GordonThreeExplorerI'd enjoy seeing the endless night for a bit. Midnight sun however, no thanks.
My brain was right confused trying to sleep during the summer solstice at a campground in Fairbanks. - ppineExplorer IIYou have to like cold and dark.
It is possible to see the Northern Lights just fine north of Fairbanks in a month like May or September. - gboppExplorer

Probably not a lot of snakes either. Except for a few snow snakes. - GordonThreeExplorerThe article is available to freely read via the link provided. It's a photo essay rather than anything RV or travel related.
- D_E_BishopExplorerI spent some time N/O the A.C. while in your employment. I can say from experience that it is beautiful and exciting to be there, but preparation is important. Communications are also important.
Living on the other side of the country I don't get the NY papers so I'm not familiar with the article and suspect it was written for those who leave the driving to someone else or go in the tourist season. "Life Is Different In A Motorhome", a quote from a ten year old grandson of ours, he knew then that it is fun but a lot goes into doing stuff like that. And yes he has been up there too. Summer Solstice six years ago.
There isn't much there but photo ops, take a great camera and a tablet or computer, you'll be sorry if you don't. - wilber1ExplorerArctic winters aren't fun. The upside is no bugs.
Right now you would be looking at 6 hrs of daylight at 65 North. On Dec 21 it would be more like 3 hours. - sue_tExplorerWe camped at -40 during one of trips from Vancouver Island to Beaver Creek near the Yukon/Alaska border http://yukonsights.ca/19981212_AlaskaHwy.html
Now that we live in Yukon, we often take winter day trips just to enjoy the scenery http://yukonsights.ca/20140222_KluaneLk.html
