Lukeville border crossing

The roads from San Carlos to Santa Ana to Lukeville were what I would call very decent ( compared to Navajoa to San Carlos)
Everything at Pitiquito (handing in car permits) is the same as last year....likewise to turning in your FMM's and stamping passports @ 228 Km (North)
I have to say that this is a favorite crossing....except now after going through kiosk (far right lane)...you have to get to the far left to be able to make the turn and go through the exit gate ( with angled topes ) and then around to the left to exit
I am 31 feet with toad and would not want to be larger to navigate!
Last year they allowed you to access the road to the left without going the other way( what are they thinking!!).....but it is now permanently barricaded....puzzling!
Outside of that from Santa Ana to the border there was hardly any traffic....basically clear sailing on decent roads
  • We came through with a caravan last week and the guards moved the post so we didn't need to do the "s" curve. We had a lot of 40' + plus toads it would have been a nightmare but they fixed it for us.
  • Never had a problem going north thru the border at Lukeville driving a 40 footer with toad. I have always used the right hand lane. Am I missing something here?

They now have you make a hard right through the secondary inspection area and then a left turn back to the highway. This was clearly not done to make it easier to exit.
  • We came through there a couple weeks ago with our 41' rig pulling a toad and had to move to the far left side of that secondary inspection lane to clear the passenger side of the coach. I inched forward a little at a time, getting out of the coach to check a couple times in the process. I ended up clearing the right rear wheel well by less than an inch.

When we got to Casa Grande that afternoon I discovered that I had scraped the slideout topper cover on the bedroom driver's side. It damaged it beyond repair, to the point that when I put the the slide out it tore up the topper. That topper is now obsolete, so I had to have a different type installed, at a cost of close to $700.
  • I think anyone passing through customs inspection with a large coach or 5th should request that the steel posts be removed in order to exit directly on to the road heading North instead of risking damage going through the secondary gates
If it is the same next year...I certainly will
  • Well, there are 4 of us with 40 and above footers coming thru on Tuesday so we will see how it goes. Looks like it is going to suck.
  • I am now thinking of just using nogales. Heck with the number of rigs goign to Rocky point you would think they would not do this.

So you still cannot cancel the tourist card at Caborca? What about access to the cancel station in Caborca, it was a bit tight last year.

    Dons, how did it go?
  • They will remove the secondary passage if you ask them nice, I just went through with 18 rigs and they took the barriers out for us.
  • Came thru this morning. We sent the 42footer first and they wanted him to make the hard right. When he said he probably couldn't do it without tearing something up, they quickly removed the posts for us to go straight out.

I don't know who came up with the lame brain idea to send trucks and rv's thru the maze. If they opened up the far left lane, it wouldn't be to bad but to have you in the far right lane is crazy. Oh well, don't have to worry about it for another year and things will change before then.
  • After talking to many officials at many locations, when our friend turned in his vehicle permits at Caborca, we asked about turning in our FMM's. They said what every other official has said. Don't bother. They expire.
