Mac-In-Awe.
It's confusing because of the spelling of the Mackinac Bridge and at the south shore is Mackinaw City and of course there's Mackinac Island. But it's like Tom/Barb said, all are pronounced Mac-in-awe. - Tom_BarbExplorer

Also, the alternate route is not very convenient. - Matt_ColieExplorer II
All vehicles will be classified by the lead vehicle. Anything being towed will be charged the per axle rate of the lead vehicle with the exception of the Motor Home towing an auto, the towed auto will be charged at the auto rate.
Print this and have it with you.
I know personally of two cases where this did not happen.
Matt - The_TexanExplorerHave crossed it 4 times with our motorhome & toad. NO problem, just follow the rules and they will NOT allow you on the bridge if the winds are to dangerous.

The bridge is never a problem. Just bring the duck tape to secure your wrists to your ankles. I have a very light old coach that appears (be SAE definition it dose not) have three axles. They hit me with the same toll as a Grayhound Bus and it weights less than my pickup. No Discussion is accepted. So, stop before the bridge and unhook the towed and save the 6$us.
Go to: http://www.mackinacbridge.org/fare-schedule-9/ and read that this is not a cruel joke.

Matt - INBellbuoyExplorerI just crossed Thursday, the right lanes in both directions are closed for construction just south of the south tower. Be careful on the grate.
- rexlionExplorerStay in the right lane; the grate in the left lane makes handling squirrely. Of course, if you're going 25 mph you'd better not be in the left lane anyway! ;) It will be a piece of cake at that speed.
Very strong crosswinds would be the biggest hazard, and if it's that bad they are likely to close the bridge for a while.
When I was a young man, the accelerator cable stuck on my Mazda GLC as I was coming down the north side toward St. Ignace. The car was picking up speed on the downhill run, with the toll booth coming up quickly. Talk about unnerving! I turned the ignition off for about 5 seconds, then back on... that did the trick. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIIt's very easy. If the weather is bad and warrants closing, they will do it. It's a beautiful drive....really! :)
