- SailordiveExplorerRoute 13 takes you from just south of Wilmington, DE all the way to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Part of it is limited access down to around Dover, DE. From Dover you will have many traffic lights for 15 or 20 miles then fewer until you hit Seaford DE to Salisbury MD. Its about 100 miles from Wilmington to Salisbury. After that you have 120 miles with few lights down to the Bridge.
- JerryNHExplorerNHIrish, I am not familiar with the Eastern Shores route. Would you give details? Thank you
- NHIrishExplorerWe always use the Tappan Zee to avoid the GW. If traveling on a Sunday, you would be ok going right down 95. It is a time saver if you can do that.
Otherwise, we also like the Eastern Shores route. The traffic lights can be irritating...just so you know!
Also, depending on your height, you can use the Garden State Parkway. There are a couple lowish bridges on the southern end, but we have made it at 13'4". - slayExplorer IIProbably the best route across the Hudson River is I-84 at Newburgh, N.Y. Then you can either turn south on the N.Y. Thurway to New Jersey or continue west to Scranton, Pa., then south on the Pennsy Turnpike Northeast Extention to Philly and on to Wilmington, Del. In Delaware turn south on Rt. 1 and follow Rt. 13 south along the Eastern Shore, cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, then south out of Cheasapeake toward the Outer Banks. I would avoid the Tappen Zee Bridge and don't go anywhere near the George Washington Bridge.
