Follow the money! I have no problem paying taxes and fees to use the roads. We use them and we need to pay for our use. But it you follow the money you may find that many of those fees and taxes that are for roads are diverted to other programs. Many of those taxes and fees generate a profit that is then used for those other programs. And then when the roads don't get repaired they come back to the tax payer for more money and we all support it (well enough support it) because we all see the potholes and disrepair. It's the same concept as every local tax increase in your City is either for police and fire or road repair. You never see them go public with tax increases for social spending programs, it's always police and fire or road repairs that everybody knows we need. And then that new money goes to those causes (at least on paper) and money gets pulled out of those caused at the other end. I worked for the government for 30 years, saw it happen.
