Mazatlan to Durango

We are interested in doing an overnight return trip to Durango from Maz.without the fifth on the new highway. Any insight or tips would be appreciated. How long does it take one way from say Villa Union? Also rough idea on quota's. Can anyone recommend a dog friendly hotel/motel in Durango, secure parking for pick-up? Any comments, ideas would be appreciated. Thanks all Canada Irl.

    We did the trip in a motorcycle a few days ago and did not keep track of cost. I would say the time would be about 3 hours and with stop 4 hours. We took the old road there and the new road back. It was a fabulous trip. We stayed at the hotel Florida (500p per night) and it was not too bad, but I would suggest another hotel is anyone offers something better. No one had pets, but I suspect they would be allowed at this location. You do not indicate that your staying extra day to see the sights so I will not go into that. I know this does not answer your questions much, but have a great trip.
