I was also going to warn of snow along the route. The North Rim typically will not open until some time in May, due to feet of snow on the ground along highway 67, south of Jacob Lake, where it connects to Highway 89 (or is it 89A?)
Bryce is high elevation, with part of the park at 9,000' elevation. That part will still have snow on the ground in April, but it is towards the southern end of the scenic road inside the park. . .
Yes Monument Valley is worth the side trip, if you have the time. I don't know what I will have for lunch next week, and you are planning April? I guess you have the time to plan, so go for it!
